About CheckMyDate

Date Smarter. Date Safer.

CheckMyDate is an Australian technology platform designed to help people make more informed decisions before meeting someone they've connected with online, by making it easier to review publicly available information and identify potential warning signs.

Online dating has changed the way people connect, but it has also created genuine challenges around trust, fake identities and increasingly sophisticated AI-generated profiles, images and digital identities.

We created CheckMyDate because we believe people need a simple and affordable way to check what publicly available information exists before deciding to meet someone.

Our goal is simple: to give people more information before they make the decision to meet someone they've connected with online.

What a check actually does

CheckMyDate runs an AI-assisted search of publicly available online information connected to the details you provide. Instead of manually searching across the public web, social media, news sources and other publicly accessible information yourself, CheckMyDate brings relevant findings together into a single, easy-to-read report.

Depending on what is publicly available and the information provided, a check may identify:

  • Social profiles — publicly visible social media accounts that appear to match the person being searched.
  • News and press mentions — publicly indexed news articles and press coverage.
  • Professional and business information — publicly accessible company listings, professional profiles and other business-related information.
  • Dating profile references — publicly accessible or indexed references associated with dating platforms, where available.
  • Relationship indicators — publicly available information such as wedding announcements, social media posts and other online references that may indicate whether someone is married or in a relationship.
  • Photo matches — if you upload a photo, image-search technology may identify whether that image appears elsewhere online, including as a stock image or in connection with a different name or identity.

Reports are based on publicly available information that can be found online at the time a check is performed. AI-assisted analysis helps organise and summarise findings, but it can make mistakes. Findings should always be treated as information to consider and potential leads to review — not as verified facts or definitive conclusions about a person.

Why CheckMyDate exists

Because AI is making fake profiles, images and digital identities more convincing, while online dating continues to grow.

The challenge is simple: when you connect with someone online, it can be difficult to know whether the person you're talking to is genuinely who they claim to be.

CheckMyDate was created to make it easier for people to review publicly available information, identify potential warning signs and make a more informed decision before meeting someone in person.

We don't make the decision for you. We give you more information to help you make it yourself.

What a check can't do — and why that matters

This is one of the most important things to understand about CheckMyDate: a CheckMyDate report is not a certified background check and cannot guarantee someone's identity, character, intentions or safety.

  • Official criminal history checks in Australia require a National Police Check and may access records that are not publicly searchable on the web. If a CheckMyDate search finds nothing, that means no relevant information was identified through the publicly available sources searched — not that nothing exists and not that a person has been verified as safe.
  • Common names also create a risk of mixing up different people. We use available context to help identify relevant information, but a report may sometimes surface information that belongs to someone else with the same or a similar name.
  • CheckMyDate can only identify information that is publicly available and accessible to the search technologies used at the time of the check. Private profiles, restricted databases, paywalled records and information that is not publicly indexed may not appear.

Every finding should be considered carefully and independently verified where appropriate.

How to use a CheckMyDate report

Think of CheckMyDate as a faster starting point for the research you might otherwise do yourself — not a replacement for your own judgement.

We encourage you to:

  • Read findings as potential leads and information to consider, not verdicts.
  • Look at the source and context behind important findings.
  • Meet in a public place when meeting someone for the first time.
  • Tell a trusted friend or family member where you're going and who you're meeting.
  • Use the notify-a-friend feature to share your date's venue, address and time with someone you trust.
  • Trust your instincts and take additional precautions whenever something doesn't feel right.
  • Contact us if a report appears to have confused two different people.
